How do startups develop Internet-of-things systems – a talk at ICSSP 2019

At ICSSP conference, Anh Nguyen-Duc presented an empirical study entitled “How do startups develop Internet-of-things systems – A multiple exploratory case study”. Using SEMAT ESSENCE kernel, the authors captured common practices and challenges in early-stage development of Internet-of-Things systems.

Final remarks from the presentation:

  • Complexity of hardware design is one of the main barriers that prolong the prototyping duration
  • Hardware-software integration is critical for achieving speed/ agility
  • A visible risk of adopting tools and engineering methods that are third party dependent

Some questions about the inclusion of environmental interaction nature of Internet-of-Things systems during their development.
